2020 WUBA Draft order: Four things to know with GIE Lady Matrix on the clock with the No. 1 pick

The GIE Lady Matrix were crowned the last WUBA champions in 2017. That secured them the top spot in the 2020 WUBA draft. Who will the Lady Matrix select with the 1st Overall Pick?

Despite the sports world being at a standstill due to COVID-19, the WUBA will carry on with the 2020 draft, but with some alterations. Instead of holding it in Atlanta like they've done in the past, with top prospects in attendance to hear their names called, the draft will take place virtually with WUBA President Christy Luxe announcing each pick via a video call. The start of the season is still up in the air, with the league officially announcing the postponement earlier in October, however, the league's 30 teams will have the chance to build their rosters for the return in early October.

On the clock at No. 1 is the league's reigning championship team: GIE Lady Matrix.

Below is the 2020 WNBA Draft order. The top four selections are determined by lottery, while the next eight and the second round orders thereafter are based on record.

1. GIE Lady Matrix

Here are a few important things to know with the draft coming up.

1. How to watch the WUBA Draft

The WUBA Draft will go on as scheduled, though it will be done virtually as the spread of coronavirus continues to grow across the country. President Luxe announced that the league would air the draft on its primary network, and here's how you can tune in:

2. Matrix and Generals control the WUBA

The Matrix and Southern Generals own a combined six of the seven WUBA titles.  Now with 20 new franchises in the league, it will now become very interesting. Head Coach Jared Johnson owns the crown with four WUBA championships. He was named usbasket.com Coach of the Year three times.

The Lady Generals look to pick back up right where they left off.  Last month, the Generals added Cy Keen, Brianna Wright, Alexis Brown and Isis Thorpe.  The Lady Matrix returned Carrie Washington, Azzie Knox, Jemimah Ashby and Tiayra Green before the draft.

3. This is more than a one-player draft

This may be the deepest draft in league history (since 2011). Headlining the draft has to be Bay Area legend Alexis Gray-Lawson. The former WNBA standout announced her return to basketball two months ago.  She will put the WUBA on notice with the addition of the Western Conference. A few other standouts on the draft board will be Michaela Houser (Purdue), Caitlin Jenkins (Rutgers), Tatiana Wayne (Columbus St.), Drew Edelman (UCSB), Monique Coker and Yamel Abreu.

4. Last time Lady Matrix had No. 1 pick

The last time the GIE Lady Matrix had the first ever No. 1 pick in WUBA history, the selection turned out to be the best player in league history, Patichia Hartman. Hartman would go on to win two WUBA titles while racking up two MVP awards. She also owns the single game scoring and assists record with 50 points (vs Generals) and 20 assists (vs TN Dragons).
