GIE Lady Matrix re-sign Tiayra Green

by Eurobasket News

GIE Lady Matrix signed 27-year old swingman Tiayra Green. It is actually her comeback to the Lady Matrix as she played here before.  Green was drafted in the 2nd Round of the 2015-2016 season for the Matrix.  As a rookie, she played limited minutes on a loaded Matrix roster but earned more time after displaying her defensive ability along with great shooting touch.  She would finish her rookie season with an average of 3.4 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game. Green would return the following season as a starter after a successful international trip with the Lady Matrix.  As a starter, Green would triple all of her averages. In the 2016-2017 season, Green averaged 14.0 ppg, 5.4rpg, 2.3apg, 2.5spg (top 5) along with 45.8% shooting from the three (WUBA best). She was later voted All-WUBA Most Improved Player along with All-Defensive First Team honors. Green's great play helped the GIE Lady Matrix to their third WUBA league championship.

"After the announcement of the return of the WUBA, it was a no brainer to put the Lady Matrix back into the league,” said Matrix owner J.D. Barnes. “As an owner and coach it’s very important to add players you trust. Tiayra Green and Carrie Washington were a big part of our success in 2017. Most don't realize that Tiayra came in and sat the bench majority of her rookie season. It wasn't until we added her to the Mitchell Cup (Dominican Republic) roster where I saw her real talent. I called her Dennis Rodman with a pure three point stroke. Green became a starter and never looked back. If it wasn't for an injury in 2018, she would be playing professionally.  That’s what many don't know. We signed her to Mataro (Spain) after her performance in France. She worked and became a damn good player for our Lady Matrix. We’re very excited to have her back.”

Green played in four FIBA International Cups with the Lady Matrix from 2016-2018.

2016 - Copa Mitchell Cup (Santiago, Dominican Republic): Runner - Up

2016 - Liga Mediterranean Cup (Barcelona, Spain): Winner

2017 - Liga Mediterranean Cup (Toulouse, France): Final Four

2018 - FIBA United Cup (Toulouse, France): Final Four

Green'e FIBA International Awards:

- 2016 - All-Copa Mitchell Cup 2nd Team

- 2017 - All-Mediterranean Cup Honorable Mention

- 2018 - All-Mediterranean Cup Honorable Mention

Green has previously played professionally in WABA and WBDA.

She originally signed with the University of Tulsa. She would later transfer to Clayton State University until 2016 and it will be her fifth (!!!) season as a professional player.
